#ExperiencesNotStuff: Holiday Gift Idea #9 of 12

#ExperiencesNotStuff: Holiday Gift Idea #9 of 12

A Knight in a Castle (or historical hotel)

Spending the night in a castle makes kids feel like a real princess or knight and brings history alive making for a fantastic family vacation. While castles aren’t always accessible if you live outside Europe, there are similar historic hotels, even some that are allegedly haunted, that can extend your vacation time into the sleeping hours. Here are some historic properties we loved on our family trips.

Dromoland Castle, Shannon, Ireland

We stay here on our last night everytime we’re in Ireland for a family vacation and every time we seem to find a new nook or cranny to explore or a new family activity. They have falconry, horseback riding, golfing, archery and much more!

Hotel Del Coronado, San Diego, California

They say the Hotel Del Coronado is haunted by the ghost of Kate Morgan and the kids had a blast looking for evidence of the haunting when we took a family vacation to San Diego.

Hotel Metropole, Hanoi, Vietnam

Discovering bomb shelter, Hotel Metropole, Hanoi, Vietnam

This hotel in Hanoi is where the foreign press congregated during the Vietnam war and it has a rich colonial history. We happened to arrive the day they found the bomb shelter that was rumored to be on their grounds…a remnant of the Vietnam War…they just uncovered the entrance when we arrive and they let the kids go down for a sneak peek.

Happy Holidays from our family to yours! Look for the next holiday gift idea for the kids tomorrow. And remember, #ExperiencesNotStuff!
