Paradise Point Resort: Tropical Retreat in the Center of San Diego’s Attractions

image

imageBilled as the closest resort to Sea World San Diego, you would never guess that Paradise Resort is the blissful getaway that it is. Located on a private island in the middle of Mission Bay, the resort offers a sanctuary from the crowds of San Diego while at the same time providing proximity to some of the area’s top family-friendly attractions.

The villas at the resort are spacious and designed with an eloquent, exotic theme. I would definitely recommend the bay side villas as they offer fabulous water views and you are literally steps to the beach. The five pools each offer unique experiences while the on-island activities – like bike rentals, boat rentals, stand up paddle rentals, free games including horseshoes, croquet, and bocce ball and more. The only downside is…it’s hard to get the kids to leave the island to explore the rest of San Diego.

imageOne day, we spent riding surreys (four person car-like bikes) around the island. I gave the kids a map and circled locations on it and they had to drive and navigate (adults sat in the back seat). It was quite humorous to watch them trying to work together to find and get to the destinations and eye-opening to my future driving experiences…yikes! Their favorite destination was the 3-story tower that soars in the center of the island and offers views around the bay.

imageBeing that the resort was so close to Sea World – they even have a water shuttle to take guests there – we did have to get our marine on and head there for a day. The kids loved riding the roller coasters and learning about all the ocean animals. They especially liked the Wild Arctic exhibit.

imageAnother day, we headed across the water to Coronado Island for lunch at the supposedly haunted Hotel Del Coronado and finished our day with a giant pizza at Luigi’s in Mission Beach followed by s’mores in the fire pit on the beach in front of our villa. Other family-friendly attractions in San Diego include Balboa Park with its dozens of museums, San Diego Zoo, San Diego Wild Animal Park, La Jolla (where you can kayak and snorkel with lemon sharks), and more.
