10) IRELAND

Ireland’s castles and rich history of knights and pirate queens stirs the imaginations of children of all ages, but add eco-friendly adventure activities, music and dancing, and great craic (Gaelic for fun) and you have a Craic-en good time for the whole family! Start with Dublin where you explore some major historical sites, visit museums and a fantastic zoo, learn to play Irish games and try your hand, or should we say foot, at Irish jig. Then, head west to the dramatic Atlantic coast visiting small towns of the Northwest and then south, past the famous Cliffs of Moher, to the famous Killarney. A visit to the Dingle Peninsula wouldn’t be the same for families without a horseback ride through the rolling green hills and don’t forget to kiss the Blarney Stone!

8) COSTA RICA

Costa Rica’s motto is Pura Vida, Pure Life, and with its plethora of eco-friendly outdoor activities that immerse you in wild nature, it’s easy to see why! Explore the jungles at the base of a volcano by hiking, zip lining and white water rafting, and perhaps spotting animals like monkeys, sloths, kinkajous, frogs, lizards and more, before heading to the Pacific Coast for some R & R…well, that’s if you can find time between the snorkeling, stand up paddle boarding and turtle conserving!

7) VIETNAM

Vietnam offers a wide array of family-friendly activities…from kayaking Halong Bay to learning to cook in Hanoi to discovering war history in Saigon. Start by exploring the north in Hanoi – perusing colorful markets housed in French Colonial buildings. Then, board a traditional junk boat to explore the bizarre rock formations and caves of Halong Bay. Stay for a few days to experience rural life in the bay from floating villages to sprawling rice fields. Next, head south where you will learn about the Vietnam War (or the American War as they call it) at iconic sites like the Cuchi Tunnels. End your trip on the Mekong Delta where you will visit floating markets and small villages. If you have some extra time, head up the Mekong River to Cambodia where you can visit the world wonder Angkor Wat!

6) BELIZE

With a Caribbean coastline boasting one of the world’s longest great barrier reefs and lush jungles dotted with Mayan pyramids, this tiny country in Central America packs more than its fair share of punch for family fun. Cayes in the north provide easy access to idyllic Caribbean islands at a fraction of the cost of the mainstream Caribbean. The waters here teem with colorful corals and fish life, intrepid scuba divers and snorkelers can even swim with sting rays and sharks. Head further south to get a bit off-the-beaten path in Garifuna-influenced Placencia, a small beach town with pathways raised over beach sands of this peninsula. Head inland to experience Mayan culture near San Ignacio or cross over into Guatemala to experience the wonder of Tikal.

5) ITALY

Since times pre-dating the Roman empire, the region of what is now Italy has been a voyager’s paradise and today is no different. With epic landmarks like the Roman Colosseum and the Leaning Tower of Pisa, and the sinking city of Venice, Italy draws quite a crowd. But it’s still possible to get off-the-beaten path and have some truly unique experiences the whole family will love; think cooking classes, learning to steer a gondola boat, gelato tasting and more. Start your tour in Venice, and see this city before it is engulfed by the sea…feed pigeons in St. Mark’s Square, if it’s not flooded, watch glass being made in Murano, make a mask, hear a concert or just get lost in the tiniest back roads you’ve ever seen. Next, head to the beautiful countryside of Tuscany and use it as a base to explore artistic Florence and medieval towns like San Gimignano. End your trip in Rome, exploring the Forum and Colosseum and then learning the tricks of the trade in gladiator school and more!
